Many businesses already accept payments through conversations.
A customer walks into a store and wants to pay. Someone places an order over WhatsApp. A seller closes a sale in DMs. In many cases, the payment happens where the conversation happens.
If you’re only starting to think about new ways to accept payments, crypto may not be the first option that comes to mind. But for some businesses, it can be a practical way to receive money from customers who already use digital wallets — especially when they want a fast, borderless, or alternative payment method.
The challenge is that accepting crypto can feel more complicated than it should. Merchants often end up manually sharing wallet addresses, double-checking amounts, or figuring out how to track who paid and when.
Not every business needs a full checkout system or dedicated payment hardware to get started.
Tender’s WhatsApp Outlet is designed for merchants who want a simpler way to accept crypto payments. Instead of installing a POS terminal or building an online checkout, you generate payment requests directly from WhatsApp and share them with customers as payment links or QR codes.
Whether your customer is standing at your counter or ordering through chat, you can collect payment in crypto in a few steps.
Who this is for
This may be useful if:
- You sell primarily through WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, or DMs
- You run a physical business and want to start accepting crypto before committing to a POS setup
- You serve international or diaspora customers who already hold crypto
- Customers have asked whether they can pay with crypto and you don’t currently support it
How the WhatsApp Outlet works
A WhatsApp Outlet is a payment channel inside Tender that lets you create and manage crypto payment requests through WhatsApp.
Once your Tender account is set up, you can create your WhatsApp Outlet and start generating payment requests.
If you’re new to Tender, read our guide on setting up your account first.
Creating a crypto payment request
Here is the complete flow:
- Message the Tender Bot and select New Payment
- Enter the amount your customer owes in your local currency — just the number, nothing else
- Select the blockchain network the customer will pay on
- Select the coin or token (USDT, USDC, ETH, and others are available)
- The bot generates a branded QR code card — showing your business name, the network, the token, and the wallet address
- Share that QR card directly with your customer in your WhatsApp chat
- The customer opens their crypto wallet, scans the QR code, and sends the payment
- You receive confirmation and the funds land in your Tender wallet
The whole process, from entering the amount to sending the QR card, takes under a minute.
What the customer sees
The customer receives a clean, professional payment card with your business name on it. They scan the QR code with their crypto wallet app — Metamask, Trust Wallet, Binance, Coinbase Wallet, or any other standard wallet — and send the exact amount shown.
They do not need a Tender account. They do not need to download anything new. If they already hold crypto, they can pay.
What happens after payment
The payment lands in your Tender wallet. From there, you can:
- Withdraw to your local bank account in your currency — NGN, GBP, USD, and others supported
- Keep the funds in your wallet in crypto if you prefer
- Set up Auto-Payout so funds are automatically withdrawn to your bank on a schedule
There are no chargebacks. Once a crypto transaction is confirmed, it cannot be reversed. This matters for businesses that have been burned by fraudulent payment reversals.
Viewing your transaction history
Your full transaction history is accessible directly in the WhatsApp chat. You can see every payment, the amount, the currency, and the status — without logging into a separate dashboard. Though if you prefer the full overview, everything is also available in your Tender dashboard.
What about fees?
Tender charges 2% per transaction, capped at $100. There are no monthly fees, no setup fees, and no fees for creating payment requests. You pay only when a transaction is completed.
Compare that to what you currently pay for payment processing, or the cost of a failed international bank transfer.
Can I use this alongside an online store?
Yes. Many Tender merchants use multiple Outlets simultaneously — a WhatsApp Outlet for social selling, an Online Outlet connected to their Shopify or WooCommerce store, and an In-Person Outlet for events or physical retail. Each Outlet operates independently, and all transactions flow into the same wallet and dashboard.
What currencies and crypto can customers pay with?
Customers can pay with over 300 crypto assets across 20+ blockchains. For WhatsApp payments, the most commonly used options are USDT, USDC, and ETH. Your customer selects what they want to pay with, and you receive the settlement in your local currency regardless.
